This group is now sadly suspended until further notice.
Well technically Stepping Stones is a church group, but we originated as a homegroup called 'Thank God Its Friday' which ended up meeting on a Thursday! When we outgrew a home we thought about what we should do next and we came up with this idea of a Bible-study group, meeting in the Parish Room, which people from within and without the congregation can dip in and out of as they find time, and to avoid a set series of study, which can take commitment.
On top of this, we have initially veered away from actual Bible Study as you might imagine it. We have been using books called 'God in the Movies' and 'Finding God in the Movies' to literally find God, or the Christian message, in really mainstream movies. So, take a film like 'Chariots of Fire' or 'Elephant Man' and the Christian message is obvious, but watching films like 'Life of Pi', 'True Grit', 'Up!', or 'Field of Dreams' and then we start to think a bit more about what it means 'finding God'; what is good, what is bad etc!
We meet monthly on the second Thursday in the month, in the Parish Room, at 7:00pm. In between dates we watch the chosen movie as individuals, or small groups, and then on the night we will watch pertinent clips from the movie and address questions and ideas.
So if you like a broad spectrum of movies, and would like to find God in those movies then come along.
