The picture below shows the scaffolding wrapped around the tower. It was erected in April 2022 and the work is expected to be complete by the end of June. The work is to repair the poor brick infilll at high level on the round tower in areas beneath 5 of the 8 faces of the octagonal belfry.
The four images below show in detail the work being undertaken. Picture 3 shows a replaced quoin of Caen limestone from a quarry near that town in northern France. Caen stone was a favoured building material of the Normans and is the main constructional material of many English cathedrals including Norwich.
